Özet
Magnetron-sputtered TiO2, TiNx, and duplex TiO2/TiNx coatings were deposited on TA17 titanium alloy to enhance its corrosion resistance in a 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution simulating saline marine conditions. Surface morphology and phase structure were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and x-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. Surface roughness, hardness, and wettability were evaluated using atomic force microscopy (AFM), Vickers hardness testing, and contact angle measurements, while electrochemical performance was investigated in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution using electrochemical techniques. Among the investigated coatings, the duplex TiO2/TiNx coating exhibited the best corrosion performance, reducing the corrosion current density from 2.5 × 10−6 A/cm2 for uncoated TA17 to 4.5 × 10−8 A/cm2 and increasing the polarization resistance from 11.9 to 950.3 kΩ cm2. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy revealed larger capacitive loops and two distinguishable relaxation processes, indicating enhanced barrier performance and improved interfacial stability. These findings demonstrate that the duplex TiO2/TiNx architecture effectively limits electrolyte penetration and provides superior corrosion protection for TA17 titanium alloy under saline conditions.
