Özet

Not as a new but as a popular context, online education has been discussed worldwide after the pandemic. The needs and expectations of all members – as students, teachers, parents, pre-service or candidate teachers, school administrators etc.- in the education system have to be analyzed and new trends, different ideas or original comments should be stated in this field due to the global aspects of online education. Again, it is stated that improving new systems or applications for the use of technology for online or distance education has also been studied as a common issue in Türkiye.  Nevertheless, it is stated that the academic studies about distance or online education have been mainly conducted with in-service teachers, students, school administrators and university students; however, there are not so many enlightening studies on the needs and comments of candidate teachers and preservice teachers in Faculties of Education in Türkiye. Furthermore, it is realized that there is no compulsory course about distance or online education for candidate teachers during their bachelor's degree in Faculties of Education in Türkiye; even if the importance of teacher training and teacher motivation in the online education process has been clarified in the previous studies. For this reason, in this study, it is aimed that the needs and problems of candidate teachers regarding the online education process would be determined to design a new and useful course about teaching via online education for Faculties of Education in Türkiye. Within this perspective, since it is thought of as a “niche” for teacher training; in this study, candidate teachers and students in a Faculty of Education have been questioned about their beliefs, ideas, current knowledge, expectations and comments on online education in Türkiye.  The data is collected from randomly selected participant students from a state university in the east of Türkiye and 288 students who have been teaching in different grades and departments have been asked via a semi-structured questionnaire specifically designed by the researcher herself. In this questionnaire, there are 15 questions about the needs and comments of participant students, and also some follow-up questions for the issue.  After the data collection process, all data has been coded and analyzed using qualitative research methods. At the end of the study, it is revealed that nearly all participant students stated that they need to be trained about online education applications since they may teach via online education in their teaching career in the future. Because they are not good at the applications and new trends on this issue, the participants commonly stated that they feel anxious about teaching online in the future. Due to this potentiality, candidate teachers know the importance and necessity of training in online or distance education process as a university student; finally, it is concluded at the end of the study that if candidate teachers are educated within a curriculum about online education within their bachelor's degree, they will be much more motivated teachers on this issue in the future; and it is seen as a necessity for the future teachers' abilities because of the developing world and globalization.
