Abstract

In the study, the decolorization of Direct Blue 71 (DB71) dyestuff belonging the azo group was investigated by using ultrasound (US) and ultraviolet (UV), one of the advance oxidation processes (AOP), in company with Fe+2 and H2O2. The decolorization yields for US, US/H2O2, US/Fe+2 and US/Fe+2/H2O2 combinations were 43, 26, 46 and 55%, respectively. In the experiments by using UV, the decolorization yields for UV, UV/H2O2, UV/Fe+2, and UV/Fe+2/H2O2 combinations were 40, 42, 50 and 60%, respectively.

The effects of Fe+2 ve H2O2 on the decolorization yield of DB71were investigated by using sonophotocatalytic oxidation in which both US and UV are used simultaneously. In the sonocatalytic oxidation trials, no significant increase was observed compared to Us and UV. The decolorization yields for US/UV, US/UV/H2O2, US/UV/Fe+2 and US/UV/Fe+2/H2O2 combinations were 32, 45, 47 and 58%, respectively.
