Abstract

This study investigates the tools and methods used by the United States, Russia and China in their struggle for gaining spheres of influence in Central Asia, which has become an area of struggle for the Great Powers. This region has become an area where tools such as language and demographics/population operate and where governmental and non-govermental organizations and volunteers work intensely to serve their national interests. The study indicates that Russia, even with its past imperialist policies, is not regarded as an adversary in the region and that factors such as language, population, cultural and educational ties are still working on its behalf. The study also points out that China has not stopped being perceived as a traditional adversary, and to alleviate this (problem) it uses various tools and mechanisms. The United States, on the other hand, as a "foreign/outside" power to the region, is trying to portray the image of a "friendly" and "helpful" entity by using generally accepted methods.
