Özet

This article discusses the importance of the social studies course within the context of social and cultural influences and from the perspectives of the factors underlying the types of violence caused by a number of variables in the schools; the reflections of the areas, reasons and impacts of violence on social studies students and teachers; and in particular, the solutions to the education of the learners. The research was done according to the survey model and at twenty schools in Erzurum city/Turkey. The participants of the study were 200 teachers at 20 schools. The data were analysed with SPSS version. The data analysis was done with the following: Frequency Analysis, Descriptive Statistics and Independent Samples T-Test. The results of the study showed that the social studies lesson has a remarkable effect on the structuring of students' perception of violence. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
