Abstract

Abstract: 1,2,4-Triazole derivatives have drawn considerable attention for the past few decades
because of their diverse biological properties. Many 1,2,4-triazole derivatives are found to be potent
antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antiviral agents. The identification of triazoles and
determination of their antibacterial activities are of considerable interest because of the role they play
in pharmacological actions [1-4]. In this study, firstly five novel 1-acetyl-3-alkyl(aryl)-4-[3-ethoxy-2-
(p-methoxybenzoxy)-benzylidenamino]-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-5-ones (2) were synthesized by
the reactions of 3-alkyl(aryl)-4-[3-ethoxy-2-(p-methoxybenzoxy)-benzylidenamino]-4,5-dihydro-1H-
1,2,4-triazol-5-ones (1) [5] with acetic anhydride. In order to identify new compounds synthesized in
the study, spectroscopic methods including IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR and UV were used. In the second
part of the study, antioxidant activities of the newly synthesized compounds were screened using
different antioxidant methodologies: free radical scavenging activity [5], reducing power activity [7]
and metal chelating activity [8].
