Abstract

Third generation communication systems is defined as a family of International Mobile Telecommunications Standard(IMT-2000) by International Telecommunication Union(ITU). UMTS is accepted as a 3rd generation telecommunication Standard according to IMT-2000 family in Europe. WCDMA is the most accepted radio access technique in UMTS family. WCDMA standards is generated by 3rd Generation Partnership Project(3GPP). WCDMA communication systems have the following properties; supporting symmetric and asymmetric communication, providing efficient usage of resources, serving circuit switched and packet switched services simultaneously, supporting IP services. In this study, using 3rd generation communication systems macrocell planning, capacity calculations is carried out for speech, streaming video and interactive communication services. The total number of users with an appropriate signal quality within the cell and maximum cell load is calculated for different macrocell configurations
