What do we know about social and emotional learning? A review and bibliometric analysis of international and national studies

Özet

The aim of this study is to investigate recent trends in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) studies. For this purpose, 321 studies conducted around the world between 1997 and 2020 were investigated and 85 studies conducted in Turkey between 2004 and 2020 were examined. In this study, document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. Data were analyzed by content analysis and bibliometric analysis. According to the results, studies have been conducted mostly in the USA around the world. They are usually in the fields of education and psychology. Most of them were published between 2018 and 2020. In addition, the concepts of "practice", "emotional intelligence" and "academic success" were used mostly as keywords. Most of studies conducted in Turkey are between 2018 and 2020. They are usually in the fields of educational sciences, guidance and psychological counseling. Relational screening model was usually used. Participants are mostly students in secondary schools. Relationships with demographic variables were usually examined. All the results were evaluated on the basis of recent trends and differences related to researches on SEL. Suggestions for future researches were presented.
