In this study, a bandstop microstrip filter design is presented for S-band applications. This design includes three steps. In the first step, an optimum bandstop filter design is obtained by using open circuited microstrip structures. In the second step, suitable geometric modifications are applied to minimize stopbands which occurs at higher frequencies and have sharper rejection of the microstrip filter of the first step. In the last step, a microstrip filter design is obtained with improved high frequencies, 3GHz center frequency and bandstop behavior of S-band. Circuit and electromagnetic simulation steps are performed in AWR, SONNET and CST before implementation of the design. All programs are quite consistent results with each other for this design.
