Abstract:

This study was conducted to determine the antioxidant activity of Centaurea triumfetti. For this purpose plants were collected from Kemerköprü which is the village of Battalgazi, they were dried and their ethanol extracts were prepared. On prepared ethanol extracts, Cu2+ and Fe 3+ reducing capacities, the DPPH scavenging activitiy and the amount of total phenolic compounds were determined. It was observed that concentrated of ethanol extracts (30 µg mL-1), obtained from C. triumfetti, inhibited 74.4% lipid peroxidation of linoleic acid emulsion. In the same concentration of ?-tocopherol and trolox caused 84.3% and 81.9% an inhibition, respectively. When issued ethanol extract of C. triumfetti antioxidant activity; BHT, ?-tocopherol and trolox which is a water-soluble analog of ?-tocopherol were used as the reference antioxidant compounds.
