Abstract:In this study, it was aimed to examine the antioxidant activity, phenolic content and essential oil profile values of the plant 'Ziziphora clinopodioides Lam'. For his purpose, the plant material was collected from the foothills of Ergan Mountain, Erzincan province at 1740 m height and dried in a dark room. After dry plants were ground to fine powder, their extractions were performed by hexane, ethylacetate, methanol and water solvents, respectively. The antioxidant capacities of the extracts were evaluated by DPPH. free radical scavenging activity, ABTS.+ radical scavenging activity and metal chelating activity tests, respectively. Total phenolic and flavonoid amounts of the extracts were determined by Folin-Ciocalteu and Aluminium Chloride colorimetric methods, respectively. Phenolic contents of the extracts were identified and quantified by Reversed Phase-High Performance Chromatography (RP-HPLC). In addition, the essential oil profile of the plant was determined with hexane extract. In the antioxidant activity assays performed with different extracts from Ziziphora clinopodioides Lam, it was observed that the plant have a noteworthy antioxidant activity. In DPPH. and ABTS.+ radical scavenging and metal chelating activity tests, methanol extract showed the highest activity in all extracts. In parallel with antioxidant results, the highest phenolic and flavonoid content was observed in methanol extract. As a result of the HPLC analysis, rosmarinic acid, t-ferulic acid, pyrogallol, vaniline were found in abundance in the structure of the plant. Moreover, trace amounts of 6 different phenolic compounds were identified and quantified. As a result of GC-MS analysis, it was determined that the most abundant oils in the plant were linolenic acid (30.44%), eucaliptol (17.73%), lineloic acid (9.96%) and isopulegon (8.99%), respectively.
